The impact of urban form on urban heat island variation in a Mediterranean cities

The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect has increased with the increase in urbanisation and climate change, especially cities arid climates. This study aims to understand influence of urban forms on creating UHIs by assessing seven sites a case Mostaganem city, which is located Mediterranean coast northern Algeria. A weather station an infrared thermometer were used collect thermal data from selected (S1 S7). Site S1 was modelled simulated using ENVI-met software evaluate UHI open area bounded surrounding buildings. simulation then validated real time collected actual site. Thereafter, common form configurations identified around same site (S1), for their individual impacts, one one. results compared terms air temperature, wind speed, ground surface not mention that different contributed area. Semi-enclosed protected direct solar radiation recorded lowest temperatures, while difference between temperatures rose 2 °C hottest hours day.
